With the present tendencies of increased local taxes and the global pressure towards a sustainable forest management, costs of forest exploitation have increased significantly, while increased revenues are considered marginal. Increased efficiency of operations seems to be the only valid option for concessionaires to sustain their business. The use of proven information technology can be of great help in achieving an increased efficiency, both at the office as in the field. Existing soft- and hardware.NatReMIS can help you with evaluating the present information steams and used technologies, and advise on introduction of new, more effective methods and applications. NatReMIS is completely independent, and can evaluate most available software and compare these systems with the (future) needs of the client. Innovative conceptsDue to its experience in sectors outside forestry, NatReMIS has developed some concepts to improve efficiency in information exchange and logging and management operation significantly. Digital logging InventoriesBy combining the data of GPS equipment, digital compasses and other digital measurement tools with digital inventory forms, all accommodated in one device with specific software, data processing will take place simultaneously with the inventory. The result will be a database with all recorded information, connected to a digital 3-dimensional map. This map and database (a GIS) will be used for optimal road planning and further planning of operations. Route Planner for SkiddingWith an extensive logging regime of only a few trees per hectare, much skidder time is lost by searching for felled trees. Logs are overseen, and unnecessary compaction of forest soil takes place. Research has shown that this is the most dramatic impact of exploitation to the forest. A GPS device, loaded with local GIS data, can effectively calculate the most optimal route from the landing to the log, optimizing skidding revenues, while minimizing soil-damage. Web-based Data ExchangeFor international operating companies it can be tedious to dispose of the most accurate status of operations and the availability of timber stock in the forest or in field depots. With the introduction of Web-based GIS this problem belongs the past. Field data can be uploaded from the nearest telephone to a network of servers, or to a central server, with secure power and secure internet connection. From there all (or part of the) data can be made available for different users. It is even possible to reveal a selection of data to external auditors. NatReMIS has extensive experience in this technology and we can develop a custom-made solution for you.
