Forest Management

A forest management plan will meet legal, economic, silvicultural, social and environmental objectives, and will therefore need a variety in multidisciplinary studies.  NatReMIS can coordinate or execute these studies and incorporate them in the management plan.
An operational plan requires a detailed planning of harvest, roads, machinery and workforce.  With the use of GIS we can achieve more efficient operations.
For the establishment of new forest plantations NatReMIS can execute a feasibility study.

Certification

Global concerns in response to the effects of traditional logging operations in tropical rainforests led to the development of certification as a tool to stimulate Sustainable Forest Management.  Forest certification considers the economic, biological and social aspects of sustainability.
Legislation in timber producing countries is shifting towards a sustainable use of natural resources, considering national economic, social, and biological aspects.  As law-enforcement in remote forest areas is difficult, there is a great risk of mixing legally produced timber with illegal timber.  A number of certification bodies have introduced a "Chain of Custody" (CoC) certificate, guaranteeing that CoC certified wood on the market is legally produced.

NatReMIS offers a service for timber producing bodies interested in certification, be it a CoC certificate or a complete Sustainable Forest Management certification.

Social Forestry

In an ideal world local population should have control of the natural resources they are depending from.  Due to a number of reasons  this is mostly not the case.  NatReMIS offers services in the fields of Community Forest Management, Agroforestry and Participatory Approaches in Forest Management

GIS and Remote Sensing

Geographical Information Systems are becoming indispensable tools in forest management.  It is basically a tool to connect digital maps with your valuable data stored in databases.  GIS visualizes spatial aspects of management planning, facilitates analyses of management practice and improves efficiency of operations.
Disposal of GIS data through secure web technology can give international operating companies and institutions direct access and control over remote operations.  Part of your data can be shared with certifying bodies to enhance efficiency of control and to promote openness.

Remote Sensing is a fast and cheap way to assess land-cover and topography in forested areas, to control on-going forest operations, and can be used as a tool to extrapolate the data of a sample inventory.
